After a tough freshman campaign in 2010, John Colella broke out in the summer while playing in the New York Collegiate Baseball League. In 22 2/3 innings pitched, Colella stuck out 37 while allowing just eight hits and no earned runs. Colella led the league with 13 saves for the Elmira Pioneers. For Holy Cross in 2011, Colella was a workhorse. He led the team in ERA (3.00), and his 24 appearances and nine saves were tops in the Patriot League.
“John will be a key component to a very deep 2011 pitching staff," said Field Manager Jordan Bischel. "John is establishing himself as one of the best late relievers in college baseball.”
