Prepped at Uvalde High School in Uvalde, Texas. Pitched and played shortstop for head coaches Derrick Dietrich and Tim Bertholf. Helped Coyotes to undefeated season in District 29-4A, regional finals in sophomore year and regional semi-finals as junior. Hit .385 with 10 doubles, four triples and two home runs as senior. Three-year letterwinner, three-time first-team All-District 29-4A selectiion, third-team Class 4A all-state as sophomore, second-team Class 4A all-state and District 29-4A defensive MVP as senior, two-time academic All-District 29-4A. 2007 San Antonio Express News "Super Team" Newcomer of the Year. Hit .505 as sophomore and .448 in junior campaign. Ranked No. 1,260 nationally by Perfect Game Cross Checker. Also lettered in football as sophomore. Summer league teammate of fellow Bears Logan Vick and Logan Verrett. Member of National Honor Society.
