Beetles fans will be very happy to see Anthony Bazzani return to Alexandria for a second season this summer. The junior from Eastern Kentucky will bring his 95 MPH fastball back to the mound in 2012 looking to repeat his success from 2011. Bazzani went 4-2 with 12 saves and a 1.45 ERA for the Beetles last season. He struck out 70 batters in only 49 and 2/3 innings pitched. His prowess on the mound led to a spot on the Summer Collegiate All-American First Team. He was also ranked as the third best professional prospect in the Northwoods League by Perfect Game USA and the 80th best college prospect for the 2012 MLB Draft by Baseball America. Through Eastern Kentucky’s first 41 games, Bazzani had compiled a 3.55 ERA with 22 strikeouts and six saves while serving as the closer for Eastern Kentucky. Bazzani is double-jointed and hopes to be an Athletic Director following a professional baseball career.
