A native of nearby Barrington, IL, Bongiovanni is a right-handed pitcher who was drafted by the Arizona Diamondbacks in the 24th round of the 2005 draft. He has spent time in the minor league affiliates of both the Diamondbacks and the Toronto Blue Jays. Last season with the AA affiliate of the Blue Jays, he had a 6-7 record with 42 strikeouts in 59.2 innings.
