The 2012 Frontier League MVP, Vargas became just the second player in the history of the circuit to notch 100 RBI in a season. The third baseman finished the season hitting .290 with 29 homers, 100 RBI, 18 doubles and six triples. The homerun tally was a Beach Bums single season record and placed him second in the Frontier League. Vargas’ 410 at-bats led the FL and his 78 runs scored tied for third. Additionally, he tallied 119 hits on the year ranking his second in the circuit and his triples total was tied for fourth.
Last year was Vargas’ second in a Traverse City uniform and built on a 2011 campaign where he hit .261 with 14 homers and drove in 66. In two seasons for the Beach Bums, Vargas has hit .276 with 43 homers and 163 RBI. The homer and RBI totals are second in team history to Chase Burch. He also tops the Traverse City record books with 11 triples and ranks third with 215 hits.
Possibly the most impressive feat that Vargas has presented in his two seasons in Northern Michigan has been his durability. He has played all 192 possible games in a Traverse City uniform, earning him the longest current consecutive games streak in the Frontier League.
