Barna started all 51 games at third base for the Wildcats his freshman season and finished with the third-highest batting average on the team at .329. He recorded 17 doubles, seven home runs, and a team-best 52 RBI. For his efforts, Barna was named a Freshman All-American by Collegiate Baseball, the third person to record that honor in Davidson history. He came out of the gates hot in leading the Wildcats to a 6-2 mark after hitting .452 with a home run and 10 RBI to be named February’s Southern Conference Player of the Month. Barna put together a 13-game hitting streak, beginning the third game of the season on Feb. 21 against Georgetown and ending on March 14. As a senior at South Forsyth High School in Suwanee, Georgia, he hit .424 with eight home runs, 15 doubles, two triples, and a team-leading 36 RBI. Barna’s father, Jeff, played first base at William and Mary, and his grandfather, Richard, played outfield in the St. Louis Cardinals organization.

Mallards Field Manager Greg Labbe expects Barna to be one of Madison’s stronger leaders both on-and-off the diamond this summer. “Andrew was able to step right in and show that he can hit in the middle of the line-up and drive-in runs in a great conference,” said Labbe. “He is another player with off-the-charts character who strives to be the very best each and every day he is on the field. Even though he is only a sophomore, I will look for Andrew to display leadership characteristics this summer.”
