After seven seasons in the Minnesota Twins organization, Juan Portes joins the Jackals in 2011.
The 25-year-old spent the past two seasons with the Double-A New Britain Rock Cats. In 2010, Portes appeared in 24 major league spring training games with the Twins and hit .333 with three home runs and nine RBIs prior to batting .213 with nine homers and 55 RBIs in 127 games for New Britain. In 2009, he batted .297 for the Rock Cats. During his rookie campaign in 2004, Portes led the Gulf Coast League with eight home runs and ranked second with a career-best .327 batting average.
Portes was selected by the Twins in the 15th round of the 2004 draft out of high school in Malden, Mass. He has proven to be a versatile defender during his career, playing 274 games in the outfield, 194 at third base, 121 at second base, and 14 at shortstop. In seven professional seasons, Portes owns a .264 average with 61 home runs.
