Kane was a two-sport athlete at Eastmont High in Wenatchee, Washington, playing four years of baseball and two years of basketball. As a senior, he was a First Team All-Mid Valley selection as a pitcher and was also named to the First Team All-State squad. He held a 9-1 record as a senior, during which he pitched his greatest game, striking out 16 batters against Hanford High. After high school he went on to pitch for Walla Walla CC in Washington, where he broke the school strikeout record. Kane went on to transfer to Sacramento State where he played two stellar seasons for the hornets before continuing his career with the Sioux Falls Canaries in South Dakota from 2008-2010. His best season as a professional came in 2008 when he tallied 11 wins with a 3.45 ERA, while striking out 89 batters.
