Matt Elliot is a Scottsdale, Arizona native who attended the Dixie State College of Utah. Originally drafted in the 27th round of the draft by the St. Louis Cardianls in 2002, the 6-0, 175 lbs right-handed pitcher was drafted again the following year by the Cleveland Indians in the 22nd round. Following a trade to the Arizona Diamondbacks organization, he ascended quickly after stints in Missoula of the Pioneer rookie league in 2004, South Bend of the single-A Midwest League in 2005 and Lancaster of the high-A California League in 2006. Elliot was promoted to double-AA Tennessee of the Southern League in 2006, before being traded to Mobile in the same league, where he spent the 2007 (during which time he pitched his first professional start) and 2008 seasons. Following his 2009 campaign with Visalia of the single-A California League, he was released and joined Schaumberg of the independent Northern League in 2010. Elliot finished 2010 with a 4-1 record to go with a 4.22 ERA in 24 appearances, with two starts. Elliott went 8-5 with a 5.31 ERA for the Sox in the 2011 season.
