Travis Lawler is a native of College Station, Texas and attended the University of Florida. Originally drafted by the Colorado Rockies in the 34th round of the 2007 draft, the 6-3, 170 lbs right-handed pitcher instead attended school and had a 2-0 record with a 4.88 ERA in his final year at Florida before being selected by the St. Louis Cardinals in the 32nd round of the 2009 draft. Lawler spent 2009 with Johnson City of the Appalacian rookie league where he went 2-1 with a 4.05 ERA in 17 relief appearances. He was promoted to low-A Batavia of the New York-Penn League in 2010 where he had a 3.86 ERA in 25 appearances before being released. He is expected to be in the Sox starting rotation.
