Brian Nichols drove in the go-ahead run to give the McAllen Thunder (9-20) the lead in the sixth inning, as the McAllen Thunder hung on to beat the Rio Grande Valley Whitewings (17-11) 5-2 on Friday.Gianison Rosa singled to start the sixth. He then went from first to second. Finally, Nichols came to the plate with the score tied at one, and singled, plating Rosa.
Craig Hertler racked up two RBIs on four hits for the McAllen Thunder. He singled in the third, fifth, seventh, and eighth innings.
The McAllen Thunder relied on Brian Murphy to eat up innings en route to the win. Murphy pitched seven innings and allowed one earned run, six hits and two walks while striking out four.
A bright spot for the Rio Grande Valley Whitewings in the defeat was Luis Noel, who allowed only two runs while striking out six.
Noel ended up on the wrong side of the pitching decision, charged with his second loss of the year.
