The Fort Worth Cats seize victory thanks to late single, drop the Rio Grande Valley Whitewings 5-4

The Fort Worth Cats (3-1) and the Rio Grande Valley Whitewings (1-3) exchanged the lead four times on Saturday, but the Fort Worth Cats ended up on top with a 5-4 win over the Rio Grande Valley Whitewings.

The Fort Worth Cats would not relinquish the lead as the Rio Grande Valley Whitewings were unable to weather a three-run fifth inning deficit.

The Rio Grande Valley Whitewings scored two runs in the seventh on a fielder's choice and a sacrifice fly by Francisco Santana. Despite their efforts, the Rio Grande Valley Whitewings couldn't get over the hump.

Derek Marshall racked up two RBIs on three hits for the Fort Worth Cats. He doubled in the third inning and singled in the second and fifth innings.

Tim Haines recorded his first win of the year for the Fort Worth Cats. He allowed four runs over 6 2/3 innings. Haines struck out one, walked four and gave up four hits.

Luis Chirinos (0-1) took the loss for the Rio Grande Valley Whitewings. He lasted just four innings, walked two, struck out five, and allowed four runs.

In the bottom of the first, the Fort Worth Cats grabbed the early lead, 1-0. John Dziomba singled to ignite the Fort Worth Cats' offense, before RJ Harris singled, plating Dziomba.

The Fort Worth Cats went up for good in the third, scoring three runs on an RBI double by Marshall and a two-run single by Chuck Caufield.
