The Acadiana Cane Cutters hang on against the Brazos Valley Bombers, 7-5

The Brazos Valley Bombers (14-8) were never able to get over the hump and overcome their troubles against the Acadiana Cane Cutters (12-9) on Wednesday, as the Brazos Valley Bombers fell 7-5 at Brazos Valley Bank Ballpark after falling behind by four runs in the eighth inning.

The Brazos Valley Bombers scored on an RBI single by Nick Smelser in the eighth inning and in the ninth inning. Still, the Brazos Valley Bombers couldn't catch the Acadiana Cane Cutters.

Alex Marse paced the Acadiana Cane Cutters at the plate. Marse went 4-5 and scored two runs. He doubled in the sixth inning and singled in the second, fourth, and eighth innings.

Smelser racked up three RBIs on three hits for the Brazos Valley Bombers.

William Mathis recorded his first win of the year for the Acadiana Cane Cutters. He allowed three runs over 6 2/3 innings. Mathis struck out three, walked two and gave up seven hits.

Blake Bagley (0-1) was the game's losing pitcher. He lasted just four innings, walked none, struck out three, and allowed four runs.
