Craig Massoni was cold coming off the bench, but Massoni warmed up quickly as Massoni stroked a key pinch-hit single in the one to lead the Mankato MoonDogs (32-8) to a 4-2 win over the Waterloo Bucks (21-19) on Monday at Riverfront Stadium-Waterloo, IA.
With the Mankato MoonDogs leading by one, Massoni came to the plate and singled.
Nick Ratajczak helped the Mankato MoonDogs pull ahead for the duration in the seventh inning. After Chad Christensen singled, Ratajczak came to the plate with the score tied at one in the seventh inning, and tripled, plating Christensen and Drew Stankiewicz.
The Mankato MoonDogs would not relinquish the lead as the Waterloo Bucks were unable to weather a three-run seventh inning deficit.
The Waterloo Bucks scored one run in the ninth on an RBI single by Jordan Adams. Still, the Waterloo Bucks couldn't draw even.
Kyle McGrath got the win, running his season record to 5-1. He allowed two runs over 8 1/3 innings. McGrath struck out six, walked two and gave up seven hits.
Kyle Kramp ended up on the wrong side of the pitching decision, charged with his third loss of the year. He lasted just one inning, walked two, struck out one, and allowed three runs.
