The Newark Bears seize victory thanks to late double, drop the Worcester Tornadoes 8-4

The Newark Bears (12-24) and the Worcester Tornadoes (13-23) passed the lead back and forth seven times on Sunday at Hanover Insurance Park at Fitto, but in the end the Newark Bears pulled out an 8-4 win over the Worcester Tornadoes.

Daryle Ward put himself in scoring position with two extra-base hits for the Newark Bears. He homered in the first inning and doubled in the eighth inning.

The Worcester Tornadoes couldn't get anything going as long as Jorge Vasquez was on the mound. Vasquez held the Worcester Tornadoes hitless over two innings, allowed no earned runs, walked none and struck out four.

Johnny Welch racked up two RBIs on two hits for the Worcester Tornadoes. He singled in the first inning and homered in the seventh inning.

Greg Lane got the win, running his season record to 1-0. He allowed one run over one inning. Lane struck out none, walked one and gave up two hits.

Kyle Regnault (0-5) was the game's losing pitcher. He lasted just two-thirds of an inning, walked none, struck out none, and allowed four runs.

The Newark Bears were sparked by Burt Reynolds and Ward, who teamed up for four hits and five RBIs.
