An outstanding effort by Josh Mazzola spurred the Winnipeg Goldeyes (39-28) to a 7-3 win over the Sioux Falls Pheasants (30-37) on Sunday at Shaw Park.
Mazzola hit two home runs for the Winnipeg Goldeyes. Mazzola went 3-4 in the game with five RBIs and two runs scored. Mazzola homered in the first and fifth innings.
The Winnipeg Goldeyes got their bats going early, scoring four runs in the first inning to pull ahead of the Sioux Falls Pheasants.
The Sioux Falls Pheasants couldn't get anything going as long as Brian Beuning was on the mound. Beuning gave up just one hit, allowed no earned runs, walked one and struck out two during his 2 1/3 innings of work.
Joe Anthonsen led the Sioux Falls Pheasants' offensive threat, as he got on base two times in the game. He tripled in the second inning.
Todd Privett improved to 4-2 on the year by picking up the win for the Winnipeg Goldeyes. He allowed three runs over 6 2/3 innings. He struck out five, walked one and surrendered seven hits.
Mitchell Clegg (5-5) took the loss for the Sioux Falls Pheasants. He allowed seven runs in six innings, walked four and struck out three.
