Spiers helps the Lincoln Saltdogs down the Gary SouthShore RailCats 6-5

Joe Spiers had two extra base hits, sparking the Lincoln Saltdogs (15-20) to a 6-5 victory over the Gary SouthShore RailCats (15-20) on Sunday at Gary, Ind. (U.S. Steel Yard).

He doubled in the first inning, homered in the fourth inning, and singled in the second and fifth innings.

Mike Massaro put himself in scoring position with three extra-base hits for the Gary SouthShore RailCats. He tripled in the first, third, and fifth innings.

The Lincoln Saltdogs couldn't get anything going as long as Chuck Lukanen was pitching. The Lincoln Saltdogs managed just one hit off of the the Gary SouthShore RailCats' pitcher, who allowed no earned runs, walked none and struck out two during his two innings of work.

Wade Mackey recorded his third win of the year for the Lincoln Saltdogs. He allowed four runs over 5 2/3 innings. He struck out three, walked one and surrendered eight hits.

Morgan Coombs (2-3) took the loss for the Gary SouthShore RailCats. He allowed six runs in 3 2/3 innings, walked three and struck out one.
