Early lead not enough for the Newark, drop 6-4 decision to the Grand Prairie

Story by Narrative Science.

The Newark built an early edge on Thursday, but the Grand Prairie (17-10) roared back to steal a 6-4 victory at QuikTrip Park.

The Grand Prairie took the lead in the fifth inning.

Chris McMurray put himself in scoring position with two extra-base hits for the Grand Prairie. He doubled in the second inning and homered in the fourth inning.

The Newark had no answer for Derrick Miramontes, who kept runners off the basepaths in his appearance. Miramontes held the Newark hitless over two innings, allowed no earned runs, walked one and struck out one.

The Grand Prairie were sparked by Keanon Simon and David Thomas, who teamed up for six hits and two RBIs.

Matt Fitton was the game's losing pitcher. He lasted just 4 2/3 innings, walked three, struck out six, and allowed five runs.
