The Carolina Diamonds (6-10) took down the Akron Racers (5-11) 9-1 on Monday at McCormick Field after slamming the Akron Racers with seven runs in the sixth inning.

Natalie Villarreal put herself in scoring position with three extra-base hits for the Carolina Diamonds. She singled in the first inning and doubled in the sixth inning.

Katie Burkhart's 10 strikeouts were enough to push the Carolina Diamonds past the Akron Racers. Burkhart allowed one earned run on three hits and three walks over seven innings.

Sharonda McDonald paced the Akron Racers at the plate. McDonald went 2-3 and scored one run. She singled in the first and third innings.

Kristina Thorson (3-3) was the game's losing pitcher. She allowed six runs in five innings, walked four and struck out one.

Villarreal, Rachel Folden and GiOnna DiSalvatore helped lead the Carolina Diamonds. They combined for seven hits and five RBIs.
