Story by Narrative Science.

The USSSA Pride (5-4) refused to relinquish the lead after grabbing it early against the Carolina Diamonds (2-7), recording a 13-5 victory on Thursday at Jackie Robinson Stadium.

Five runs in the first three innings allowed the USSSA Pride to put the game away early.

An RBI single by Caitlin Lowe, an RBI single by Lowe, and a two-run home run by Ashley Charters during the first inning and an RBI single by Jenn Salling in the second inning fueled the USSSA Pride's offense early.

Andrea Duran racked up three RBIs on three hits for the USSSA Pride. She singled in the second inning, tripled in the third inning, and homered in the fourth inning.

Sarah Pauly kept contact to a minimum, striking out five the Carolina Diamonds batters. The USSSA Pride's pitcher gave up just five hits over 4 2/3 shutout innings.

Kelsi Weseman got a hit in each of her two at bats. She singled in the fourth and sixth innings.

Katie Burkhart ended up on the wrong side of the pitching decision, charged with her third loss of the year. She allowed 13 runs in six innings, walked five and struck out six.
