The Akron Racers' Marder comes through in the clutch, upends the USSSA Pride, 4-3

Sam Marder drove in the go-ahead run to give the Akron Racers (4-5) the lead in the eighth inning, as the Akron Racers hung on to beat the USSSA Pride (4-4) 4-3 on Saturday.

With the game scoreless in the eighth inning Marder came to the plate and hit a grand slam, plating Kelley Montalvo, Sharonda McDonald and Lisa Modglin.

Marder racked up four RBIs on one hit for the Akron Racers. She homered in the eighth inning.

The Akron Racers staved off the USSSA Pride as the USSSA Pride were unable to match the Akron Racers down the stretch.

The USSSA Pride scored three runs in the eighth on a three-run home run by Natasha Watley. Still, the USSSA Pride couldn't draw even.

Kristina Thorson got the win, running her season record to 2-2. She allowed three runs over eight innings. Thorson struck out seven, walked one and gave up seven hits.

Brittany Mack couldn't get it done on the rubber for the USSSA Pride, taking a loss. She lasted just eight innings, walked four, struck out seven, and allowed four runs.
