The Carolina Diamonds drop the Akron Racers 7-3 behind Mejia's early home run

The Carolina Diamonds (15-20) built an early lead against the Akron Racers (14-22), scoring four runs in the first inning, en route to a 7-3 win on Thursday at Firestone Stadium.

Caitlin Lever was solid at the plate for the Carolina Diamonds. Lever went 2-4, drove in one and scored two runs. She homered in the fourth inning and singled in the sixth inning.

The Akron Racers couldn't get anything going as long as Angel Bunner was pitching. Bunner gave up just two hits, allowed no earned runs, walked none and struck out one during her three innings of work.

Aja Paculba racked up three RBIs on two hits for the Akron Racers. She homered in the fourth inning and singled in the sixth inning.

Katie Burkhart recorded her eighth win of the year for the Carolina Diamonds. She allowed three runs over four innings. Burkhart struck out four, walked four and gave up two hits.

Kristina Thorson (4-5) was the game's losing pitcher. She allowed six runs in three innings, walked three and struck out three.
