Alec Palioca did his part on the rubber, but it wasn't enough to carry the Torrington Titans (25-20) to a win on Thursday, as the Torrington Titans fell to the North Shore Navigators (26-19) 1-0 at Fuessenich Park.
Palioca handled the North Shore Navigators' lineup with ease, racking up 12 strikeouts. Palioca allowed no earned runs on five hits and one walk over nine innings.
Jake McGuiggan helped the North Shore Navigators take the lead for good in the ninth inning. Brad Elwood singled to start the ninth. He then went from first to third on an error. Finally, McGuiggan came to the plate with the game scoreless in the ninth inning and, bringing home Elwood.
The North Shore Navigators were led by Elwood's hitting. Elwood went 3-4 and scored one run. He doubled in the first inning and singled in the third and ninth innings.
The Torrington Titans' lineup had no answer for Joe Gruntkosky. Gruntkosky gave up just two hits, allowed no earned runs, walked two and struck out three during his five innings of work.
Nate Witkowski got the win, running his season record to 1-0. Witkowski struck out one, walked none and gave up two hits.
Palioca couldn't get it done on the hill for the Torrington Titans, taking a loss.
