Monday was a great day for Pat Gelwicks, as he clubbed two home runs to carry the Slippery Rock Sliders (13-28) to a 12-2 victory over the Richmond RiverRats (22-17) at Jack Critchfield Park.
Gelwicks racked up seven RBIs on four hits for the Slippery Rock Sliders. He doubled in the second inning, homered in the fifth and seventh innings, and singled in the eighth inning.
The Slippery Rock Sliders ran up the score, scoring runs at will until the final out. The Slippery Rock Sliders scored four runs in the final three innings to cap the blowout win. The Slippery Rock Sliders scored three runs in the seventh on a two-run home run by Gelwicks and an RBI single by Mike Porcaro.
The Slippery Rock Sliders relied on Ben Rawding to eat up innings en route to the win. Rawding pitched nine innings and allowed two earned runs, nine hits and one walk while striking out seven.
Patrick Van Daalwyk ended up on the wrong side of the pitching decision, charged with his fifth loss of the year. He lasted just four innings, walked one, struck out two, and allowed five runs.
