Piikea Kitamura drove in the go-ahead run to give the Orleans Firebirds (20-15) the lead in the eighth inning, as the Orleans Firebirds hung on to beat the Wareham Gatemen (15-19) 7-2 on Friday.Derek Toadvine reached on an error to start the eighth. He then went from first to third on a single by Reed Gragnani. Finally, Kitamura came to the plate with the score tied at one, and, scoring Toadvine.
Angelo LaBruna racked up three RBIs on two hits for the Orleans Firebirds. He singled in the fifth and eighth innings.
Jarrett Arakawa baffled the Wareham Gatemen, striking out eight batters. Arakawa allowed one earned run on two hits and no walks over 6 2/3 innings.
Despite the loss, the Wareham Gatemen's Brad Kuntz dominated the Orleans Firebirds' batters, giving up one run and striking out nine.
Dylan Covey improved to 3-0 on the year by picking up the win for the Orleans Firebirds. He allowed one run over 1 1/3 innings. Covey struck out one, walked none and gave up two hits.
Clay Chapman was charged with his first loss of the year. He lasted just one inning, walked two, struck out none, and allowed five runs.
