Chad Maddox was cold coming off the bench, but Maddox warmed up quickly as Maddox stroked a key pinch-hit double in the eight to lead the Southern Illinois Miners (29-19) to a 5-4 win over the Lake Erie Crushers (25-23) on Sunday at All Pro Freight Stadium.
With the Southern Illinois Miners trailing by one, Maddox came to the plate and doubled.
Maddox helped the Southern Illinois Miners take the lead for good in the eighth inning. Cannon Lester singled to start the eighth. He then went from second to third on a sacrifice fly by Jake Kaase. Finally, Maddox came to the plate with the Southern Illinois Miners trailing by one in the eighth inning, and doubled, plating Lester and Darian Sandford.
The Southern Illinois Miners held off the Lake Erie Crushers, as the Lake Erie Crushers were unable to overcome a two-run eighth inning deficit.
The Lake Erie Crushers scored one run in the ninth on. Unfortunately, the Lake Erie Crushers weren't able to take the lead back.
Ryan Quigley improved to 1-2 on the year by picking up the win for the Southern Illinois Miners. Quigley struck out two, walked none and gave up one hit.
Travis Risser was charged with his second loss of the year. He lasted just one inning, walked one, struck out none, and allowed two runs.
