First-inning rally sparks blowout win for the Southern Illinois Miners, 9-1

The Southern Illinois Miners (54-38) blew out the Schaumburg Boomers 9-1 on Thursday at Schaumburg Baseball Stadium after pouring on five runs in the first inning.

Jake Kaase racked up two RBIs on four hits for the Southern Illinois Miners. He homered in the second inning and singled in the first, fifth, and ninth innings.

Daniel Calhoun picked up the win for the Southern Illinois Miners. Calhoun allowed one earned run, six hits and no walks while striking out five over seven innings of work.

Alex Rivers ended up on the wrong side of the pitching decision, charged with his fourth loss of the year. He allowed six runs in seven innings, walked one and struck out five.
