Early lead not enough for the Schaumburg Boomers, drop 4-3 decision to the Gateway Grizzlies

The Schaumburg Boomers (33-22) came out firing, but couldn't hang on to the lead, ending up on the losing side of a 4-3 ballgame against the Gateway Grizzlies (30-25) on Thursday at GCS Ballpark - Sauget, IL.

A solo home run by John Shelby gave the Gateway Grizzlies the lead in the sixth inning.

Shelby put himself in scoring position with two extra-base hits for the Gateway Grizzlies. He doubled in the second inning and homered in the sixth inning.

Zac Treece had an impressive outing against the Schaumburg Boomers' lineup. Treece held the Schaumburg Boomers hitless over one inning, allowed no earned runs, walked none and struck out three.

Logan Mahon improved to 1-1 on the year by picking up the win for the Gateway Grizzlies. He struck out one, walked one and surrendered one hit.

Matt Kuna couldn't get it done on the rubber for the Schaumburg Boomers, taking a loss. He lasted just 6 2/3 innings, walked none, struck out seven, and allowed four runs.

The Gateway Grizzlies were sparked by Shelby and Chris McClendon, who teamed up for five hits and four RBIs.
