The Joliet Slammers top the Lake Erie Crushers in back-and-forth affair, 3-2

The Joliet Slammers (5-6) outlasted the Lake Erie Crushers (4-6) on Tuesday after five lead changes, squeaking out a 3-2 win at All Pro Freight Stadium.

The Joliet Slammers pulled out the win thanks to a strong seventh inning. A groundout by Ben Hewett scored Trevor Willis and gave the Joliet Slammers the lead for good.

Paul Fagan was effective even in defeat, mowing down seven the Joliet Slammers batters and allowing one run.

Tommy Mendoza got the win, running his season record to 2-0. He allowed two runs over six innings. Mendoza struck out three, walked two and gave up five hits.

Chance Gilmore (0-1) was the game's losing pitcher. He lasted just 2 2/3 innings, walked three, struck out three, and allowed one run.

The bottom of the first saw the Lake Erie Crushers take an early lead, 1-0. The Lake Erie Crushers got things going when Adrian Ortiz doubled.

It didn't take long for the Lake Erie Crushers to respond as they scored one run of their own in the sixth. The Lake Erie Crushers scored on an RBI single by Gered Mochizuki.

The Joliet Slammers never surrendered the lead after the seventh inning, scoring two runs on a groundout by Hewett and an RBI triple by Willis.
