Alex Bates kept the Rio Grande Valley Whitewings (0-2) off the board during his six innings of work and the San Angelo Colts (2-0) beat the Rio Grande Valley Whitewings, 3-0.
Bates struck out three and allowed two walks and one hit.
Chris Caves pushed the San Angelo Colts ahead, in the ninth inning, and the lead lasted until the final out. After Mike Mobbs singled, Caves came to the plate with two outs in the ninth and doubled, plating Mobbs and Kyle Nichols.
Corey Frerichs recorded his first win of the year for the San Angelo Colts. He struck out one, walked two and surrendered one hit.
Ray Hanson was the game's losing pitcher. He lasted just eight innings, walked one, struck out five, and allowed two runs.
