Three first-inning runs helped the West Virginia Miners (16-12) to a 4-3 win over the Richmond RiverRats (12-16) at Linda K. Epling Stadium on Friday.

Zach Woolcock racked up two RBIs on two hits for the West Virginia Miners. He homered in the first inning and singled in the fifth inning.

David Hess's 10 strikeouts helped the West Virginia Miners to the victory. Hess allowed three earned runs on nine hits and one walk over eight innings.

Shane Bryant was charged with his second loss of the year. He lasted just six innings, walked one, struck out four, and allowed four runs.
