A five-run explosion in the ninth inning carried the Orleans Firebirds (22-19) to an 8-2 win over the Brewster Whitecaps at Stony Brook on Wednesday.
Ross Kivett racked up three RBIs on two hits for the Orleans Firebirds. He singled in the third inning and homered in the ninth innings.

Brandon Leibrandt ended up on the wrong side of the pitching decision, charged with his first loss of the year. He lasted just five innings, walked none, struck out two, and allowed three runs.
