A walk-off solo home run from Tanner English brought home the winning run for the Harwich Mariners (9-4) in a 2-1 victory over the Chatham Anglers (7-5) in 10 innings at Whitehouse Field on Thursday.
English paced the Harwich Mariners at the plate. English went 1-5, drove in one and scored one run. He homered in the tenth inning.
The Chatham Anglers had no answer for Johnathan Frebis, who kept runners off the basepaths in his appearance. Frebis held the Chatham Anglers hitless over five innings, allowed no earned runs, walked three and struck out three.
Sean Fitzgerald improved to 1-0 on the year by picking up the win for the Harwich Mariners. Fitzgerald struck out three, walked one and gave up two hits.
Stephen Marino was charged with his first loss of the year. He lasted just one-third of an inning, walked none, struck out none, and allowed one run.
