The Washington Wild Things (21-19) failed to take advantage of C.J. Beatty's effort at the plate on Tuesday, losing 16-5 to the Gateway Grizzlies (26-13) at GCS Ballpark.
Beatty blasted two home runs for the Washington Wild Things. Beatty went 3-4 in the game with four RBIs and two runs scored. Beatty homered in the third and fifth innings.
Eight runs in the first three innings helped the Gateway Grizzlies blow out the Washington Wild Things. An RBI double by Chris McClendon, a two-run home run by Jet Butler, and a solo home run by Jon Myers during the first inning and a sacrifice fly by Jose Flores, an RBI double by McClendon, an RBI single by Landon Hernandez, and a single by Butler in the second inning helped the Gateway Grizzlies put some runs on the board early.
Antone DeJesus had two extra-base hits for the Gateway Grizzlies. He homered in the fifth inning, singled in the second and seventh innings, and doubled in the eighth inning.
Tim Brown recorded his sixth win for the Gateway Grizzlies even though he allowed five runs over seven innings. He struck out four, walked three and surrendered seven hits.
Shawn Sanford couldn't get it done on the bump for the Washington Wild Things, taking a loss. He allowed eight runs in 1 1/3 innings, walked two and struck out one.
The Gateway Grizzlies pounded the Washington Wild Things pitching, as six hitters combined for 14 hits, 13 RBIs and 13 runs scored.
