Early lead not enough for the Joliet Slammers, drop 6-3 decision to the Schaumburg Boomers

The Joliet Slammers (8-12) jumped out to an early lead, but were unable to hold on and lost 6-3 to the Schaumburg Boomers (13-8) on Saturday.

While the Joliet Slammers led until the fourth inning, the Schaumburg Boomers worked their way back and took the lead when Bobby Martin was hit by a pitch.

Steve McQuail led the Schaumburg Boomers' offensive threat, as he got on base four times in the game. He scored two runs and had one RBI. He homered in the fifth inning.

James Bierlein had an impressive outing against the Joliet Slammers' lineup. Bierlein held the Joliet Slammers hitless over 1 1/3 innings, allowed no earned runs, walked one and struck out three.

Shawn Kale was effective even in defeat, mowing down five the Schaumburg Boomers batters and allowing one run.

Chris Phelan recorded his second win of the year for the Schaumburg Boomers. He allowed three runs over six innings. Phelan struck out three, walked one and gave up five hits.

Corey Kimes was charged with his second loss of the year. He lasted just four innings, walked two, struck out two, and allowed four runs.
