The Danbury Westerners best the Keene Swamp Bats in shootout, 12-11

Fans were treated to a high-scoring affair Wednesday as the Danbury Westerners (4-1) outscored the Keene Swamp Bats (2-2) 12-11.

The teams totaled 28 hits in the game.

The Danbury Westerners staved off the Keene Swamp Bats as the Keene Swamp Bats were unable to match the Danbury Westerners down the stretch.

The Keene Swamp Bats scored on an RBI single by Dylan DelaCruz and in the fifth inning, a solo home run by Fran Whitten and a fielder's choice in the sixth inning, and an RBI single by Mike Papi, a three-run home run by DelaCruz, and a solo home run by Grant Kay in the eighth inning. Unfortunately, the Keene Swamp Bats weren't able to take the lead back.

Tom Zengel racked up two RBIs on two hits for the Danbury Westerners. He homered in the fourth inning and singled in the sixth inning.

Ben Brewster got the win, running his season record to 2-0. He allowed two runs over four innings. He struck out three, walked two and surrendered two hits.

Joe Pistorese (0-1) took the loss for the Keene Swamp Bats. He allowed seven runs in three innings, walked three and struck out two.

The Danbury Westerners pounded the Keene Swamp Bats pitching, as six hitters combined for 12 hits, 11 RBIs and nine runs scored.
