LaPointe's single gives the Sanford Mainers walk-off win over the Newport Gulls, 7-6

A walk-off single from Nate LaPointe brought home the winning run for the Sanford Mainers (1-1) in a 7-6 victory over the Newport Gulls (1-1) in 10 innings at Goodall Park on Saturday.

LaPointe had a hot bat for the Sanford Mainers. LaPointe went 2-5 and drove in one. He singled in the eighth and tenth innings.

The Sanford Mainers were led by Anthony Hajjar's hitting. Hajjar went 3-5, drove in one and scored two runs. He homered in the fifth inning and singled in the first and tenth innings.

Jerry Ferris baffled the Newport Gulls, striking out 12 batters. Ferris allowed one earned run on six hits and two walks over six innings.

Evan Chamberlain got the win, running his season record to 1-0. Chamberlain struck out none, walked one and gave up no hits.

Caleb Kellogg (0-1) was the game's losing pitcher. He lasted just zero innings, walked none, struck out none, and allowed no runs.
