John Martinez brought home the winning run to give the Chatham Anglers (16-16) the lead in the sixth inning, as the Chatham Anglers hung on to beat the Orleans Firebirds (18-14) 4-2 on Monday.
With the score tied at two in the sixth inning, Martinez came to the plate and homered.Martinez racked up two RBIs on one hit for the Chatham Anglers. He homered in the sixth inning.
Kurt Schluter got the win for the Chatham Anglers thanks to eight strikeouts. Schluter allowed two earned runs, five hits and no walks over six innings.
Despite the loss, the Orleans Firebirds' Jimmy Reed dominated the Chatham Anglers' batters, giving up zero runs and striking out seven.
Philip Pfeifer (1-1) took the loss for the Orleans Firebirds. He lasted just one-third of an inning, walked one, struck out none, and allowed two runs.
