Early lead not enough for the Fort Worth Cats, drop 5-4 decision to the Rio Grande Valley Whitewings

The Fort Worth Cats (44-36) jumped out to an early lead, but were unable to hold on and lost 5-4 to the Rio Grande Valley Whitewings (47-33) on Sunday.

While the Fort Worth Cats led until the seventh inning, the Rio Grande Valley Whitewings worked their way back and took the lead on an RBI single by Romulo Ruiz.

The Rio Grande Valley Whitewings were led by a flawless day at the dish by Mario Mercedes, who went 2-2 against the Fort Worth Cats' pitching. He singled in the second inning and doubled in the fourth inning.

Brandon Jones racked up three RBIs on two hits for the Fort Worth Cats. He tripled in the second inning and doubled in the third inning.

Wander Perez recorded his second win of the year for the Rio Grande Valley Whitewings. Perez struck out one, walked none and gave up no hits.

TJ Bozeman couldn't get it done on the rubber for the Fort Worth Cats, taking a loss. He lasted just one inning, walked none, struck out one, and allowed one run.
