Baker's big day not enough as the USA National fall to the USA Futures, 38-37

Bryson Baker hit two home runs, but it wasn't enough to carry the USA National (0-1) to a win on Wednesday, as the USA National fell to the USA Futures (1-0) 38-37 at ASA Hall of Fame Stadium in seven innings.

Baker racked up six RBIs on five hits for the USA National. He homered in the first and fifth innings and singled in the fifth, sixth, and seventh innings.

Kevin Filby rocked the USA National with two home runs. Filby went 3-5 in the game with five RBIs and four runs scored. Filby homered in the first and fourth innings.

Both squads had things going at the plate, tallying 75 runs and 78 hits, including zero extra base hits.

The USA Futures staved off the USA National as the USA National were unable to match the USA Futures down the stretch.

The USA National scored on a three-run home run by Brett Helmer, a two-run home run by Brian Rainwater, a three-run home run by Johnny McCraw, an RBI double by Don Dedonatis, an RBI single by Greg Connell, an RBI single by Helmer, a three-run home run by Baker, an RBI single by Rick Baker, a three-run home run by McCraw, and a two-run home run by Dedonatis in the fifth inning, a fielder's choice and a two-run double by McCraw in the sixth inning, and a two-run single by Baker, an RBI single by Rainwater, and an RBI single by Baker in the seventh inning. Still, the USA National couldn't draw even.

Travis Clark recorded his first win for the USA Futures even though he allowed 37 runs over seven innings. He struck out none, walked five and surrendered 39 hits.

Andy Purcell ended up on the wrong side of the pitching decision, charged with his first loss of the year. He allowed 38 runs in seven innings, walked one and struck out none.

The USA Futures hammered the USA National pitching as 11 hitters had a field day, combining for 38 hits, 29 RBIs and 38 runs scored.
