3 Millionth Player Winner Revealed!
Jan 28, 2010
(As announced on Pointstreak's Facebook fan page )
Congratulations to the winner of our 3 MILLIONTH PLAYER promotion, Connor Wakely of Denver, Colorado!
It was just two days into 2010 and a cold one in Denver, Colorado. Connor Wakely, grandson of former NHL goalie Ernie Wakely (famed for backstopping the St. Louis Blues to the 1970 Stanley Cup Finals), was fuelling up and getting psyched up for his return to Midget Minor action in the Colorado Competitive Youth Hockey League, part of the legendary Colorado Amateur Hockey Association (CAHA). It was Connor's first game back after recovering from an eight month injury and although this is just a guess, in our minds he was thinking "Not only am I going to totally stonewall those Northern CO dudes today, but I'm also going to take down that Pointstreak prize of 2 NHL tickets and a cool jersey."
Although Connor had a prior profile on Pointstreak's stats system, his absence from the roster due to injury caused the scorekeeper to add him as a new player through Pointstreak's touchscreen 'electronic gamesheet'. After the game was uploaded to the web, Pointstreak's all-time player count ticked over from 2,999,999 to 3,000,000, qualifying Connor Wakely as Pointstreak's official 3 MILLIONTH PLAYER.
Connor went on face a reported 14 shots as his Boulder Minor A teammates opened up the guns with a 58 shots on their opponents. Boulder A's team effort helped take down NCYH Minor A2 with four goals in the 1st period (game winner by Cole Upland), one in the 2nd period and two in the 3rd period. Layne Libal of NCYH spoiled the shutout with a marker early in the third period, but otherwise, Connor's return to the ice was a success as he and his teammates notched up a commanding 7-1 win.
As the 3 millionth player to pass through Pointstreak's stats system, Pointstreak give Connor a special edition Pointstreak jersey and two tickets to see the Toronto Maple Leafs battle the Philadelphia Flyers
on January 14th, 2010. Why the Leafs and not the Avalanche, you ask? Turns out that Connor and his family was in Toronto that week for the International Silver Stick Hockey Tournament, so we set him up with a Leafs game to start off his hockey trip. The Leafs even pulled out a 4-0 win over the Flyers, including a beautiful goal by Tyler Bozak.
Connor, all of us at Pointstreak congratulate you on being the 3 millionth player and we thank you and the millions of other players who come check out their stats on Pointstreak every day. We do what we do in order to make your sports experience a little bit cooler.
