Pointstreak Announces Revolutionary Sports Video Highlight Product

Toronto, ON –  Pointstreak Sports Technologies Inc. has announced a groundbreaking new technology that produces live video highlights from a sports game and instantly displays them online through Pointstreak’s GAME LIVE platform.

The technology is called " Pointstreak Live Publisher " and it combines Pointstreak’s industry leading real-time scoring software with recently acquired STEVA Sports Software’s technologies. The result is a seamless system that automatically captures a video clip at the game, indexes it to the relevant statistical event (e.g. goal), and then uploads it to the web or delivers it to a mobile device. The entire process takes place within moments of the event actually happening; all without any intervention by an onsite or offsite production crew. Fans can then view the video highlight through their computer or portable device, such as the iPhone, iPad or smartphones, moments after it occurred in the game.  Pointstreak Live Publisher is currently available for the sports of hockey, lacrosse and baseball and is easily adopted by leagues or teams who record or stream game footage.  Live Publisher will be made available for all sports in the near future.

The automation behind this new technology and the affordable price point set by Pointstreak is expected to resonate with today’s fan-focused leagues as well as amateur leagues whose parents are eager to follow their children’s progress when they are not able to attend the game.

The Northwoods League, a summer collegiate baseball league based out of Rochester, Minnesota with a history of innovation, was the first league to use Pointstreak Live Publisher during a late-season trial project. 

"Pointstreak Live Publisher is extremely easy to use.  Basically, the scorekeeper scores the game as usual and suddenly, if there’s a play of significance, the highlight clip is automatically separated and then uploaded" said Curt Carstensen, Director of Operations for the Northwoods League, "This is not only good for our teams to have the ability to cut and show highlights so quickly, but also, thinking from the league perspective, we expect this technology to save us a lot of time compared to the manually-intensive process we were doing previously."

The proprietary process that Pointstreak developed for Live Publisher also means that there is little to no loss in video quality during the data compression and uploading process, meaning the online video highlights are of a very high-quality compared to poorer "web quality" video seen in other systems. The unique combination of high-quality video with real-time delivery is expected to be a big hit with fans and media.

While the rapid posting of a video clip without human intervention is the most obvious benefit of Pointstreak’s new product, the fact that every video clip is indexed and tied to various statistics (for example, a goal is tied to the player who scored it) opens up a whole new world of content delivery as well as being a powerful recruiting tool. For example, after a season of using Live Publisher, fans of a team, media or scouts could watch highlights specific to a player in every year of competition, or even watch a condensed game made up of seamless clips captured by Live Publisher.
